Young NTUC’s Future Ready Series at Silverlake Axis

Silverlake Axis’ Singapore office hosted Young NTUC’s Future Ready Series on February 27th 2017 at our innovation space. Titled “Gateway into the Future of Finance”, the event focused on Fintech and its disruptive effects on the financial sector. Around 70 young professionals and tertiary students from Young NTUC’s network attended the event. It can be challenging to remain relevant in this changing industry, and the event’s speakers addressed different Fintech elements during their sessions.

MAS speaker Raymond Moh
Raymond Moh, Assistant Director of the FinTech & Innovation Group from The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) shared on the industry’s direction and opportunities and what a career in Fintech entails. Numerous skillsets from innovation skills like design thinking to a keenness for continuous learning were mentioned. MAS has also promised to provide strong support for Singapore-based Fintech startups through funding and a regulatory sandbox framework to make it easier for them to test their business models.
Silverlake Axis speaker Fabian Lum
Fabian Lum, Silverlake Axis’ very own SEVP of Digital Financial services shared about the company history, touching briefly on our achievements before introducing our core banking platform. Silverlake’s forward thinking in 1989 enabled the company to identify the importance of helping banks evolve through technology. The company has influenced new trends in fintech and insurtech via exploration in analytics, data, and more.
PolicyPal speaker Val Yap
Rounding up the group of speakers is Val Yap, the founder of insurtech company PolicyPal whose aim is to create a simple and convenient way to manage insurance matters. She gave everyone the startup perspective, and some of the things she shared included the challenges she faced in the course of setting up her company. It was difficult to take the leap and follow her heart, but this company has led her on a really great journey of personal development. Some of the core values that kept her going were perseverance and passion.
Silverlake Axis Business Manager Sebastian Tan

To round up the panel of speakers, Sebastian Tan who is a Business Manager of Digital Financial Services at Silverlake Axis stepped up to introduce Silverlake Axis’ Fintech Internship Program. Tertiary students in Singapore were invited to apply for the program, with the first batch of interns starting in summer 2017. Interns will be involved in projects like fraud detection in insurance claims as well, analytics and data science, and more.
